Mike is an accomplished emerging fund manager, entrepreneur, restauranteur, investor, board director, and versatile leader with over 25 years of Management experience. He has led numerous investment groups and is a proven leader who has demonstrated the ability to grow, manage, and develop high-performing teams of talented professionals.

Prior to co-founding Venture Forward Capital Mike was the founder and CEO of New Leaf Capital, where he led over $15 million in new investments and realized several successful exits.

In 2011, Mike founded Union Hospitality Group and became a distinguished restauranteur. He created, managed, and successfully grew three unique restaurant concepts from the ground up with over $12 million in annual revenue. Mike has held numerous senior leadership positions at Visa Inc. and News Corp overseeing U.S. teams, developing strategy, and growing business units to over $500 million in revenue.

Mike graduated from the Indiana University Kelley School of Business in 2001, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Marketing. He serves on the board at several of his investments and is an active member of the community. He has been recognized for his entrepreneurship through various media outlets and received numerous awards for accomplishments throughout his career.

What types of companies do you find most interesting?

Companies founded by really strong entrepreneurs who have a fire that burns beyond belief to solve a specific problem. It's not just about ideas; it's about making those ideas catch fire.

What do you think surprises founders most when they start companies?

How hard entrepreneurship is. It's not for the faint of heart. It’s for the brave, the persistent, and the resilient.

Which mentor has influenced your work the most?

Paul Carlucci, Chairman and CEO of New American Marketing and New York Post, has been more than a mentor to me—his wisdom has been invaluable in my career.

Five things you couldn’t live without?

My wife, my kids, my friends—and, of course, no week is complete without golf and tennis.

What is your favorite book?

Setting the Table by Danny Meyer. This book goes beyond the basics and into the essence of hospitality, something every entrepreneur should master.
